Puhkupillit – who are we?

Wind Orchestra – very serious music making

…. sometimes. Puhkupillit, Puhkut for short, is the wind orchestra of the University of Jyväskylä. We are an orchestra known for our stage presence, good vibes and yellow accessories. Our orchestra, both as a hobby and community, is a very visible part of Jyväskylä’s cultural and student life, and that’s what we’re all about- playing and making music together. We’re not your average trumpeting brass band- with our vivid yearly concerts with diverse themes, we never forget to have fun.

Our weeks are coloured by different gigs where we’re known for our characteristic yellow accessories and ability to go with the music. On May Day, it’s possible to spot us in our overalls playing and marching through the city centre. Then again on classier occasions we’ve been booked by the university and other organisations and companies, and we’ve always taken care of gigs with honour and professionalism.

Our orchestra, consisting mostly of students, runs completely on the time and energy of our members. In addition to both studying and working everything from conducting to accounting is done by us. An essential factor behind our activity is the University of Jyväskylä, in which many of our daily lives are set in.

In the era of recordings and streaming, there’s rarely anything that dazzles nowadays as a wind band playing live music. We do gigs to continue and support Puhkupillit, so if you have an event coming up and want it to be memorable, contact us and ask for more details. We confidently take care of events ranging in size and style, and will gladly help in planning!

With love,

Puhkut
